Under the rug for 8 years

In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, a coworker of Mr. Ritchie—John Allen White—made comments that led me and several others to suspect potential abuse at the INPACT facility in Valparaiso. When we pressed White for information, he became violent. This occurred around midterms during the fall semester at Indiana University Bloomington. Upon returning to Bloomington, I reported my concerns to faculty members and classmates. Sometime before final exams, I was called into a mandatory meeting on the Bloomington campus. I am unsure whether the attendees were faculty, administration, or a mix of both, but they accused me of fabricating the allegations for attention—despite multiple witnesses having overheard White's remarks and observed his violent outburst. At the same meeting, I was also accused of plagiarizing the final project for the class taught by the faculty member I had reported to; however, I was never formally charged with plagiarism. In May 2004, following a break-in of my minivan, I revisited my concerns and reported them again to the Bloomington Police Department. I specifically asked Officer Randall Keller to forward the information to the Indiana State Police. When I later submitted a public records request, the Bloomington Police Department refused to release any documents beyond the police narrative. Despite my reports—and the comments made by White—police did not arrest Ritchie until eight years later.
